Nepal, Annapurna Circuit....Muktinath To Marpha
Some of those who walk the Annapurna Circuit seem to think that this stretch of the journey can be done by jeep, as there is a dirt road to bring the pilgrims up to Muktinath. For me, it turned out to be one of the best sections of the trek with great views, at least in the first half of the day. Also, you don't need to walk down the road all of the way. South Of Watford: Nepal, Annapurna Circuit....Chame To Lower Pisang
The route from Chame to Lower Pisang took us above 3000 metres. The walk on this day was an easy one, mostly on broad forest tracks and with much of the route passing through a familiar looking landscape of pine forest. The river was never very far away. Something was wrong, though, on this day. Although we could see something of the high peaks in the early morning, the clouds that moved in as we walked were not of the kind that just cover the tops of the higher mountains. To get to Manang from Lower Pisang there are two options. You can carry on following the main trail which follows the valley floor, or you can take a higher route which passes through the village of Ghyaru. Even though the weather conditions were still not looking good as we had breakfast, we decided to go for the less busy higher route. Although I think the real reason why so few seemed to be crossing is explained in this account of the Annapurna Circuit from the New York Times. I calculate that the author was probably about two days behind us, and it seems that the (untrue) rumours our guide had ignored about Thorung La being impossible to cross had their effect. Il y a 22 ans, Robert Bérubé du Club Aventures de Québec, me vendait un circuit en Inde (plaine du Gange, Rajasthan, Goa). Âgé d’à peine 25 ans, j’arrivais d’un tour d’Asie en formule 5 étoiles. Ce séjour me permis de découvrir ma passion pour les populations locales et celle-ci me dirigea directement vers cette agence. Le passionné Robert fit le reste.
